SYNOPSIS

One hot summer night, up on a Bucharest rooftop, DAN, a Romanian man who has just returned from Colombia, after a failed marriage and an arrest, regains hope and decides to start over in his native country with the unexpected help of an odd couple of ex-future fiancees - the undecided IZA, a Romanian woman, and the impulsive TRIFOR, a Bulgarian man. With them, he plans a trip to the seaside, in his hometown, where he will meet his mother, after many years of separation. Facing failure, an everchanghing future, fears and hopes in the cool morning sunshine brings a bittersweet, sappy and quite unexpected resolution to their plan. This play tells the story of the homecoming of the youth generation in post communist Romania who is ready now to regain control of a normal life in their home country, without fearing marginalisation anymore.

Kurze Inhaltsbeschreibung:

AWARD
BEST PLAY - RELATIONSHIP DRAMA at the LONDON FRINGE REPORT AWARDS 2006. Citation (February 2006)

'The award reflects the excellence of The Sunshine Play from Monday Theatre of the Green Hours. A commentator described their performance as 'The best thing I saw on the Dublin Fringe - straight theatre with good story, character and plot - no gimmicks, no clichés'. An inspired cast and crew created theatrical magic in this delightful love-triangle variation, set on a sloping roof in Romania where people meet to smoke.'
